The MING 20.01 Series 5 draws its design inspiration from the limitless imagination of science fiction, where surreal structures and futuristic materials are brought to life through cinematic visuals. This limited edition chronograph features a dial that appears as though it was lifted straight from a sci-fi epic, crafted using one of the most complex manufacturing techniques MING has ever employed.
The dial, meticulously milled from a single block of titanium, is laser-etched to create interlocking radial strakes that extend across both vertical and horizontal planes. It is then vapor-coated in a rich blue hue before undergoing a second laser process that selectively removes the coating from the top of the strakes, exposing the bare titanium underneath. The resulting texture and contrasting finishes evoke a striking, stonewashed effect that is both futuristic and refined.
Powering the 20.01 Series 5 is the AgenGraphe chronograph movement by Agenhor, a sophisticated manual-wind calibre known for its advanced chronograph architecture. Featuring a central chronograph core, backlash-free gears, and a hard winding stop that offers tactile feedback when fully charged, the movement is visually distinguished by 5N rose gold-coated bridges with polished anglage, underscoring the meticulous finishing throughout.
The case is a hybrid construction that merges stainless steel for the bezel, caseback, and crown with titanium pushers that are colour-matched to the dial and a DLC-coated titanium caseband for a bold contrast. Measuring 41.5mm in diameter and 14.2mm thick, the 20.01 Series 5 has a commanding wrist presence, yet the short, flying blade lugs ensure a comfortable fit across various wrist sizes.
On the sapphire crystal, the indices and chronograph scales are laser-etched and filled with MING’s proprietary Polar White lume, emitting a crisp, bright white glow. In contrast, the hands are coated with Super-LumiNova X1 in blue, enhancing legibility in low light.
Completing the watch is a set of two straps. A dark blue Alcantara strap adds a refined yet contemporary touch, while a black FKM rubber strap with MING’s flying blade tuck buckle is designed for durability and all-weather wear.
