With the temperature in Amsterdam steadily rising and the summer holidays coming up, I thought it'd be fun to offer a few suggestions on which watches to take to the beach. The list is 100% subjective, 100% Dale, and 100% cool.

For me, watches for beach duty have to have a water resistance of at least 10 ATM. They have to be comfortable, and -most importantly- they have to be FUN - though this can mean as much as a wild strap change.

1: the Longines Legend Diver

The Legend Diver is a watch that I've brought with me on many holidays and probably the one that has seen the most beach action. I never get tired of its handsome retro looks, even if it's been on the market for some 10 years now. I also feel that it is quite versatile when it comes to strap changes. I usually put it on either a tan NATO or a white rubber strap. Yes, WHITE!

2. the NOMOS Club

The NOMOS Club is one of my favorite watches period. Full stop. It is also another watch that I've taken with to the beach many times. My personal choice is the recently discontinued Club 36 ref. 701, but each and every single one of them will do - especially the Club Neomatik Siren Blue & Siren Red with their bright colors and WR of 200m. When talking NOMOS the Ahoi would work too, but I never really bonded with this model myself. Club it is.

3. Oris Divers 65

The Oris Divers 65 is another great watch to wear to the beach. It's available in a number of variations and my choice is the Deauville Blue. This one might be a bit much to wear on a daily basis, but I imagine it would feel right at home on a white sand beach. The NATO is a perfect match.

4. Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Master Chronometer

My final pick is the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra on rubber strap. I didn't go with the (obvious?) Seamaster 300M as it's so new that I'd be reluctant to take it straight to the beach, and the Planet Ocean is priced quite a bit higher. This notwithstanding the Aqua Terra is still almost as expensive as my other three suggestions combined. But look at it - doesn't this configuration just scream summer fun? It's got a light dial with highly contrasting hands & numerals, a cool rubber strap and it's rated water resistant up to 150 meters. The bright orange accents are the finishing on the cake. It's perfect.

Final remarks; when deciding on what watch to bring to the beach, pick one that you feel comfortable with picking up a few marks. If possible stick to rubber or textile straps, and gently rinse off the watch with tap water once you're back in your hotel / apartment / villa / camping / iglo.
