When we least expected it after many new releases from NOMOS in 2017, the German watchmaking brand launched an entire new family. Introducing, the Autobahn.
NOMOS teamed up with famed furniture designer, Werner Aisslinger for this new model. The name comes from the famous German motorway, the Autobahn, a highway that NOMOS employees take to get between their Berlinerblau design studios and the watchmaking factories in Glashuette.
The NOMOS Autobahn ref. 1301 features a sleek case with a thin bezel and narrow lugs. The concave dial gives the watch an extra architectural element that sets it apart from other NOMOS families. This model is available in either a white silver plated dial or in a midnight blue. The dial design is probably the most detailed of any other NOMOS family. It seems as though the inspiration came from the speedometer from the dashboard of a car. There is a triple date window and small seconds sub dial located at six o'clock.
Ref. 1301 features a white silver plated dial and a set of rhodium plated thin pencil hands. The end of the minute hand features an orange tip, giving a more sporty look to this model.
Ref. 1302 features a nachtblau dial with a white 'speedometer' detail on the dial. This is a more eccentric version compared to 1301, with the baby blue hour hand and orange/rhodium minute and seconds hands. All three color combinations are housed in a 41mm stainless steel case. The Autobahn series are all powered by the new DUW6101, an in-house automatic movement featuring NOMOS swing system and a date mechanism with a bidirectional quick correction feature.
