One of my favorite novelties from Baselworld 2018 is the Breitling Navitimer 1 Automatic 38. When Georges Kern was brought on as the new CEO of Breitling, we knew that there would be some exciting changes to the Breitling collection.
For the first time, Breitling scaled down the Navitimer 1 to a 38mm diameter, and ditched the chronograph function. This watch is really the perfect unisex model. This year was my first time attending both SIHH and Baselworld, and the novelties are almost always male oriented. This is the first time I was totally surprised that there was a new watch for ladies that didn't involve another mother of pearl dial and diamond bezel.
The dial on the Navitimer 1 38 still features the icononic slide rule. The bezel features 'grains of rice' detailing, a design element that was brought back from 1950's Navitimer. This 1950's revamp of the Navitimer is appealing for male watch collectors with an interest in vintage watches. The 38mm case diameter makes this model perfect for a male wrist as well as a female wrist. From a female perspective, the 'grains of rice' detailing is suggestive of pave diamonds, while still giving a completely different look.
The Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 is available with a black dial and blue dial in stainless steel, or a white dial in a rose gold and steel bi-colored case. The watch is powered by the Breitling calibre 17, a selfwinding mechanical movement based on the ETA 2824-2 with a 40 hour power reserve. These models start at EUR3.920 including VAT.
