Just when we thought the NOMOS Autobahn was enough of a surprise, NOMOS outdid themselves with the Tangente neomatik 41 Update, ref. 180. The striking dial is fitted inside a 41mm stainless steel case.
The Tangente neomatik 41 Update features 31 dates along the perimeter of the dial. There are small slits on either side of the number, where a red date disc rotates to indicate the date of the month. I think it's safe to say that the watch looks different every single day of the month. Many people associate NOMOS with art movements such as Bauahus, so this asymmetric date display is quite suitable. Although, NOMOS actually associates themselves with the Deutsche Werkbund =)
NOMOS designed a new in-house automatic movement with a date, the DUW6101, which powers the Tangente Update ref. 180. This calibre is built using the base movement of the DUW3001. The DUW6101 is an automatic movement with a 42 hour power reserve. This movement is built completely in house and is equipped with the NOMOS swing system. What is special about this movement however, is that the date can be adjusted in two directions. NOMOS also invented a special safety mechanism, preventing you from being able to change the date between 11pm and 1am. The reason why one shouldn't try and change the date during this time is that between these hours, the wheel is already engaged with the teeth on the date wheel. If you were to force the date change, you could rip the teeth off of the wheel and your watch would have to be serviced or repaired.
The NOMOS Tangente Update is housed in 40.5mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal casefront and back. The watch is fitted on a black Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan black strap and retails for EUR3.200 including VAT (price subject to change).
