At Ace Jewelers, we're big fan of Longines' heritage-inspired watches - especially the Legend Diver. But today we're happy to share a brand new diver inspired by the brand's rich back catalogue: the 2022 Longines Ultra-Chron Diver. Powered by a brand-new high-beat movement no less!
The 2022 Longines Ultra-Chron Diver is inspired by a 1968 watch by the same name (pictured above). But as we've come to expect from Longines, the technical specifications are thoroughly revised to reflect modern standards.
The stainless steel case of the new Ultra-Chron Diver still has the cushion-shape that's typical of the era. However, it is now crowned by a uni-directional bezel with a sapphire crystal inlay with SuperLuminova markings for low-light visibilty. The matte black and grained dial has ornate markers, especially at the cardinal points. An original 'Ultra-Chron' logo is found at 6:00.
Inside ticks a new movement. Dubbed caliber L836.6, this self-winding movement beats at a 'high-frequency' of 36.000 bph. Longines has been experimenting with such movements since the early 1900's in a bid to improve precision, as well as to reduce the disruptive effects of shocks or changes in the position.
The accuracy of this new movement is underscored by the watch's 'Ultra-Chronometer' status. This label is awarded by TIMELAB, an independent testing laboratory located in Geneva.
The 2022 Longines Ultra-Chron Diver comes on either a stainless steel bracelet or a leather strap, plus in two extra special boxes that contain an additional NATO strap made of recycled materials.
